About PCWD

Conserve Today for a Better Tomorrow

Pinedale Country Water District (PCWD) was formed in 1954 and provides water to rural residents in Fresno County. The PCWD service area encompasses nearly 1,270 acres or 2 square miles, in both the City of Fresno and unincorporated Fresno County. PCWD provides water to 2,400 residential and 550 commercial accounts. PCWD delivers water through wells dispersed across the district. Presently, demands only require the district to run three wells of the five wells; the other two are on standby. PCWD does have other wells; however, these wells are currently offline because of trichloroethylene contamination. As undeveloped lands within the district urbanize one of the standby wells will serve as the water source for the added demand.

Water Conservation

What can be done to conserve water...

• No hosing of paved surfaces, unless required for health and safety reasons and only when using a water broom or water efficient pressure washer

• Use a shutoff hose nozzle on all hoses

• If decorative fountains are used, they must have a recirculating water system

• Repair all leaks immediately

• Ensure there is no sprinkler overspray or runoff

• Restaurants will only serve water to customers upon request

• Hotels are requested to give the guests the option of not having their linens laundered daily
• Only water lawn and plants in the early morning hours to avoid water loss to evaporation and afternoon winds

• Turn off sprinklers on windy and rainy days
• Reduce your weekly watering schedule by one or two days (your landscape’s needs may vary)
• Give your automatic water system a “tune up” by fixing broken or misaligned sprinklers
• Replace high water using grass and plants with low water using California Friendly plants
• Only run full loads in the dishwasher and clothes washer
• Do not hand wash vehicles; instead take your car to a commercial car wash that reuses the water onsite
Water is vital for everyday life and is necessary for health and safety purposes. Natural disasters have the potential of disrupting the normal supply of clean water to your home or business. That’s why it is important to be prepared and to know what do to in a water emergency.
The PCWD field personnel receive ongoing training to ensure their skills and knowledge of disaster preparedness is current.  We encourage all customers to also be prepared for any type of emergency that could impact their drinking water. In most emergency situations, you should have enough food, water and medical supplies to last at least 72 hours. To help you get started here are a few tips:
• Store at least three gallons of drinking water per person in a cool dry place.
• Stored water should be replaced every three to six months.
In the event that water supplies are contaminated due to a disaster, purify all drinking water suspected of bacterial contamination by one of the following methods.

1. Use commercial purification tablets, available at camping or drug stores.
2. Boil water vigorously for several minutes
3. Add liquid chlorine bleach at a rate of 8 drops per gallon. Allow water to stand for one hour before drinking. DO NOT USE GRANULAR BLEACH, WHICH IS POISONOUS.

If a water leak is detected, call PCWD immidiately at (559) 439-2362. If after 4pm, then follow the phone prompts to reach our 24 hr. on-call service technician.
Water conservation is crucial to ensure the sustainable use of this precious resource.

Water Efficient Landscaping

With 60% of household water consumption occurring outdoors, promoting and educating customers on water efficient landscaping is a PCWD priority.

The City of Fresno has resources and literature available to educate customers on low water use plants, efficient irrigation, and more.
There are many ways to save water in your landscape, some as simple as adjusting your sprinklers to run early in the morning to avoid water lost to evaporation and afternoon winds. Other improvements, like retrofitting your landscape, may take more effort but can save thousands of gallons of water a year. Water efficient landscapes include elements such as efficient irrigation systems, artificial turf, low-water using plants, California native plants, and permeable hardscapes.

Cooking fats, oils and grease, if washed down the drain, can lead to sewage back-ups at home, your business or in the community’s sewer pipes

Help Us Conserve

Water is one of the San Joaquin Valley's most precious resources and should not be taken for granted. In addition to following the watering schedule, here are a few simple ways to help conserve water:

  • Install low-flow shower heads & toilets in your home when possible
  • Repair leaks immediately.  Faucets or toilets that drip or run constantly are a HUGE waste of water.
  • Adjust the float in your toilet so that the water level in the tank is a little lower.
  • Turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth or doing dishes.  Allowing the water to run constantly while performing these tasks can waste gallons of water each day.

Please contact our office if you observe a leak in the street or need to report excessive water use and our staff will be happy to assist you.

PROPER DISPOSAL OF FATS, OIL & GREASE

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Scrape food residue from plates, pots & pans before washing.
  • NEVER put eggshells, coffee grounds or kitty litter down the drain or toilet.
  • Use your garbage disposal sparingly.
  • Put vegetables and fruit peels in the gray or green trash can
  • Collect excess fats & oils in a sealed container & put them in the gray trash can.
  • Use proper recycling centers to dispose of used motor oil

(O’Reilly Auto Parts @ Blackstone & Sierra will take your used motor oil)
